About the Role
This senior leadership position focuses on international agricultural trade, policy development, and global partnerships. You’ll play a key role in strengthening South Africa’s position in international markets while ensuring fair and beneficial trade agreements.
Key Requirements
To qualify for this role, you’ll need:
Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Agricultural Economics
Completed Pre-entry Certificate for SMS (via National School of Government)
At least 5 years’ experience at the middle or senior management level
Experience in agricultural economics, trade, or international trade

Key Knowledge Areas
KEY FACTOR: Government & Policy Knowledge
A solid understanding of Public Service regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act and Labour Relations Act, is essential.

Economic Research & Policy Development
- Conduct research on agricultural markets and global trends.

International Trade & Agreements
- Develop and manage bilateral and multilateral trade policies.
- Support the signing and implementation of trade agreements.
- Monitor compliance with international trade obligations.
Negotiations & Global Representation
- Lead and support trade negotiations.
- Represent South Africa in international forums.
- Prepare negotiation strategies and policy documents.
Trade Intelligence & Market Insights
- Provide trade intelligence to the agricultural sector.
- Monitor global market trends and opportunities.
- Conduct economic impact assessments of trade policies.
Stakeholder & Partnership Management
- Build relationships with global partners and organizations.
