About the job:
The CSIR has a vacancy for General Assistant in the Security and Facilities Management Services (FM&SS) portfolio. The licensee will perform various semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks, as well as assist in the execution of planned and breakdown maintenance, renovations and new installations. This role also involves performing preventative maintenance tasks on buildings, systems, equipment, and ancillary areas. This position is based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist craftsmen and handymen to carry out planned maintenance and repairs to CSIR building plant and equipment;
Perform minor electrical work including, but not limited to: bulb and tube replacement and preventative maintenance inspections;
Perform electrical tasks under the supervision of the Craftsman, such tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: installation and replacement of light fixtures; installation/replacement of electrical outlets; electrical wiring;
Perform minor air conditioning jobs including, but not limited to: preventive maintenance inspections and filter cleaning; Cleaning outdoor air conditioning units.
Perform air conditioning and refrigeration tasks under the supervision of the Craftsman, such tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: Installation and replacement of air conditioners; regasification, repairs in general;
Perform general building maintenance work including, but not limited to: painting; floor; furniture; Blinds; assembly of white boards and pictures; doors, door and lock systems; roof cleaning; and preventive maintenance inspections.
Perform general facility tasks including, but not limited to, the following: general cleaning in all work areas; cleaning of vehicles used by the section; serve staff visiting the site, such as contractors;
Perform reserve tasks when necessary;
Carry out other general duties within the section and assist clients with minor requests as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
A grade twelve certificate with at least two years of experience in a technical or maintenance environment;
Good knowledge of facility maintenance and management;
Knowledge and experience in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and legal compliance in the workshop environment.
Minimum driver’s license code 8 with medical certificate.
